"Praise the Lord!!!" We hear or have heard this expression many times, but what does it mean? Is it a cliché or just another Christian or religious expression? Who does it? The super spiritual, the lunatic next door or that lady that always cries a lot? ...
The reality is that many of us don't know what "Praise the Lord" means, or if we do, we just don't do it. We praise each other all the time, sometimes we call it encouragement or giving credit to where credit is due. How do we then Praise God? Does He need encouragement or credit? Let's see what the Word has to say about this.
The Bible states that the Lord is our strength and salvation, we are to exalt him and give Him praise (Exodus 15:2). The Bible commands us to give the Lord praise for the great things He has given us and after we enjoy them (Deuteronomy 8:10). The Lord himself is your praise; he is your God. He does great and awesome wonders that you can see with your own eyes (Deutoronomy 10:21). That is why we praise Him.
The Lord our God heals, delivers, restores and transforms us. He was the one there when no one else was there, and He is still here. He came to your aid and intervened in your situation. Thus, He is worthy of your praise. "I will proclaim the name of the LORD. Oh, praise the greatness of our God!" (Deuteronomy 32:3).
By giving God praise you are also thanking the Lord for what He has done and is going to do. "Now, our God, we give you thanks, and praise your glorious name" (I Chronicles 29:13).
So why should we give praise and praise reports? We are to tell of the kindnesses of the LORD. The deeds for which he is to be praised, meaning all the good things that He has done for us. He does these deeds according to his compassion and many kindnesses towards us, His children (Isaiah 63:7). We can do so because we are now part of a Holy nation that has come out from the dark and seen His glorious light, His truth and wonders made a reality in our life (I Peter 2:9).
The Bible gives us examples of why people praise and when. "Then he put his hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and praised God" (Luke 13:13). Here we see that there was an immediate; vocal and obvious praise. She had received a miracle and then she knew her position, and that was at the feet of her Lord. We see how your praise and testimony can inspire others to also give praise to the Lord because of the great things He has done in and through you. "Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God" (Luke 18:43).
You have to verbalize your praise. "When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen" (Luke 19:37). Through whatever means, through whatever it takes, you have to Praise God as He answers your prayers, does miracles in your life and His presence resides in you. We also have to be aware that there are very serious consequences for not giving praise: "Immediately, because Herod did not give praise to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died" (Acts 12:23). Giving praise is one of the greatest things we can do, and we should not withhold it from the Lord our God.
A praise does not have to be anything fancy or elaborate. Simply put, it is acknowledging God's intervention in our time of need and thankfulness for Him doing so.
Praise The Lord!! All Honor and Glory is due His name!!
The ladies of West Marietta Aglow Lighthouse are eager to read and hear your praise reports so that we may praise along side of you. We shall do as the Bible declares, "They were glad to hear the report and praised God" (Joshua 22:33).
When you submit your praise report, the ladies from the prayer team will read it and choose to publish all or part of it. By submitting your praise report, you are giving us permission to use it in future West Marietta Aglow publications and in our website. If you choose to, you may also be contacted and may even be invited to share your testimony at one of our upcoming monthly meetings.
We want to rejoice with you and encourage others by letting them know that our God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. He is still performing miracles. He loves us and is no respecter of persons. What he did for you, so does he want and will do it for others. Go and tell, so that others may believe as well and give praises to the Lord.
"I will tell of the kindnesses of the LORD, the deeds for which he is to be praised, according to all the LORD has done..." (Isaiah 63:7)
